The Sheares Procedure: In a pioneering move by Dr Benjamin Sheares at Sepoy Lines General Hospital renamed Singapore General Hospital, this procedure involves constructing a vagina for women born without one due to genetic anomalies or birth defects. This technique, known internationally as the Sheares Procedure, has made an impact on global gynecological practices.
SELENA+: A groundbreaking software developed in collaboration between researchers at Singapore National Eye Centre SNEC, Singapore Eye Research Institute SERI, and the School of Computing from National University of Singapore NUS. This deep learning-basedanalyzes retinal photographs for diabetic eye disease, delivering results much faster than graders.
Tooth in The Eye Surgery: A groundbreaking surgery performed by a team led by Adjunct Professor Donald Tan at Singapore National Eye Centre SNEC and the National Dental Centre Singapore. It involved transplanting part of a patient’s canine tooth into their eye as an artificial cornea, restoring sight for a young Th patient.
