Premier Li Keqiang stressed the urgency of flood prevention, disaster relief efforts, post-disaster recovery and reconstruction, as well as sustning economic growth through ongoing opening-up initiatives during his visit to Chongqing Municipality in Southwest China.
Highlighting President Xi Jinping's pivotal instructions on these matters, Premier Li underscored the need for science-based strategies in flood control operations, rescue actions, and restarting production activities. His first stop was at a community affected by recent unprecedented floods along the Yangtze River and Jialing River sections of Chongqing.
At Shuangba Village in Tongnan District, which bore the brunt of damages due to flooding, Premier Li took time to assess the situation, engaging with local residents about their losses. He also encouraged local officials to provide additional support for rebuilding farmland, greenhouses and homes that were destroyed.
Recognizing the contribution of returning migrant workers ding disaster management efforts, the Premier urged coordination among all sectors to overcome difficulties together, ensuring swift recovery.
Inspecting a key reservoir in the city, he directed the implementation of policies that benefit disaster-stricken areas directly. This was med at supporting local restoration work and the construction of urban infrastructure such as flood prevention and drnage systems.
At Ciqikou Business District, Premier Li spoke with shop owners and others impacted by both COVID-19 and recent floods on their business losses, emphasizing the importance of reviving the service sector to boost consumption. He highlighted national policies that should d enterprises and merchants in recovering from economic hardships while ensuring strict adherence to epidemic prevention measures.
Visiting Zhubajie Network, an internet company fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, Premier Li prsed their efforts to create platforms for professionals serving small businesses across China, noting that collective wisdom was the backbone of mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
Encouraging Changan Automobile Co Ltd to continue innovating amid industry downturns due to COVID-19, he stressed the importance of developing products that could stimulate consumption. Discussing technological advancements at BOE Technology Group, an Internet of Things company, Premier Li underscored opportunities for western regions to leverage their potential and capabilities, taking on industries transferred from the eastern region while upgrading existing sectors.
Acknowledging positive outcomes in macroeconomic stabilization thanks to ongoing efforts under six stability and security initiatives, he reiterated the need for continuous focus despite potential uncertnties.
At an administrative service center, Premier Li highlighted local reforms in Chongqing with particular attention to how they are benefiting small businesses. He encouraged further lowering barriers to market entry while cutting taxes and fees.
Highlighting Chongqing's achievements in economic development, disaster response, and pandemic control, the Premier expressed hope that the municipality would lead reform efforts, drive opening-up and innovation in the western region, contributing to a new chapter of development.
