Department of Plastic Surgery at Union Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College and Huazhong University of Science and Technology is one of the pioneering departments in aesthetic and plastic surgery within China, significantly driving advancements in this field across central and southern regions. The Department offers comprehensive services with four primary focuses: Surface Organ Repr Reconstruction, Aesthetic Surgery, Laser Therapy, and Injection Cosmetics. This department has developed a specialized program that excels in areas such as Breast Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Plastic Surgery, Tumor Treatment on the Body Surface, Rhinoplasty Nose Reshaping, Otoplasty Ear Correction, Body Shaping Abdominoplasty, Injection Cosmetics, Liposuction Surgery, Facial Lifting, Scar Remodeling, Laser Therapy, Perineal Reconstruction, Cleft Lip and Palate Repr, Hemangioma Treatment, and Surface Organ Reconstruction.

As the national trning center for plastic surgery specialists sanctioned by the National Health Commission, this department holds the title of a national key clinical specialty. It serves as a hub for master's and doctoral programs from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, including vice-chr positions in societies for Plastic Surgery of both Chinese Medical Association and Chinese Research Hospital Association.

In 2019, the Department was ranked fifth overall among Chinese hospitals for medical service quality, with its research standard value ranking third nationwide. This department has consistently been recognized as the leading specialty across central China.

Among national institutions, this department is one of four首批 certified sites in China for testing clinical drugs related to plastic surgery and currently hosts 23 projects ongoing or completed. It consistently secures scientific research funding from various levels including National Natural Science Foundations, Transient Projects, Provincial Projects, University Grants, etc. The department is known for its contribution as chief editor and chief translator of over two dozen influential books in plastic surgery, such as Breast Plastic Surgery, Flap Reconstruction Surgery, Auto-Transplanted Fat Grafting, Facial Beauty Techniques.

The publication record boasts an impact factor exceeding 200 from numerous SCI papers since the department's establishment. Over a hundred resident physicians and M.D graduates have been recruited and trned, along with more than five hundred clinical fellows.

This Department has made significant contributions to China's medical landscape through its innovative practices in aesthetic and plastic surgery.
