The article was about the impact of climate change on coastal cities. It discussed how rising sea levels, increased frequency of extreme weather events, and warmer ocean temperatures are all contributing to the issue. Coastal cities face a multitude of challenges due to these issues which include flooding during high tides and storms, saltwater intrusion in freshwater sources, loss of habitat for marine life, damage to infrastructure like roads and buildings and loss of property value.

These cities must implement various measures such as building sea walls, elevating roads and buildings higher than the expected water level rise, investing in sustnable coastal management practices, creating green spaces that help absorb floodwaters, and developing more resilient urban planning strategies. However, implementing these measures requires significant resources which are often lacking in low-income communities.

Furthermore, climate change also exacerbates existing social inequalities in coastal cities by disproportionately affecting those who are already vulnerable, such as the poor or marginalized communities. Therefore, addressing this issue requires not only tackling environmental factors but also prioritizing equitable and inclusive policies that consider these disparities.

The paper examines the profound impact of climate change on coastal urban environments. It delves into how rising sea levels, amplified occurrences of extreme weather events, and heightened ocean temperatures are collectively exacerbating the predicament faced by these cities. The consequences for coastal municipalities include recurring flooding during high tides and storms, infiltration of saltwater into freshwater supplies, loss of marine habitats, damage to critical infrastructure like roadways and buildings, and declining property values.

To mitigate these challenges, coastal communities are adopting various strategies such as constructing sea barriers, elevating roads and edifices above the anticipated rise in water levels, investing in sustnable coastal management initiatives, creating green zones that help alleviate floodwater pressures, and developing more resilient urban planning methodologies. However, implementing such measures necessitates substantial resources, which often elude low-income communities.

Moreover, climate change intensifies pre-existing social disparities within coastal cities by disproportionately impacting vulnerable groups like the economically disadvantaged or marginalized communities. Addressing this issue thus demands not only a focus on environmental factors but also equitable and inclusive policies that recognize these inequalities. A comprehensive approach is required to tackle the multifaceted impacts of climate change on coastal cities, ensuring their resilience while addressing social justice issues simultaneously.
